Signature Resident Wins Recipe Contest

Nancy Thompson really enjoys bringing joy to others. She is quick with a smile and often has encouraging words to share with other residents and our staff. Another way she has brightened the life of others is through cooking. Nancy shared her recipe for pecan pie with us recently. The recipe won the first place prize for best dessert recipe for our company’s recipe contest. What a privilege to have Nancy as our friend. She brings sweetness into our lives in so many ways.

State Fair Photographer Catches Residents in the Act

You read that right, our residents were caught in the act–the act of having a great time while eating chili-dogs, seeing the farm animals and exhibits, and just hanging out together at the NC State Fair!

This is one of our residents favorite events of the year. Twenty residents were accompanied by our staff as well as volunteers from the local power company as they strolled through acres and acres of fun games, rides, food stands, art exhibits, and more. Getting out in the beautiful fall weather was reason enough for the trip as our dear residents soaked up the sunshine and fresh air.

When the group returned they were a bit worn out, but everyone had smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts! This is what we love about Signature – they do the unexpected to bring joy and meaning to the lives of our people!

Honoring our CNAs with a Waffle Extravaganza!

Yesterday, when our staff arrived in the building, there was an enticing and delicious smell that greeted them in the hall–the smell of homemade waffles baking. At 7:00 A.M. fresh waffles were served with all the toppings–real butter, maple syrup, blueberries, chocolate chips, and whipped cream! This was just one way we honored the great work of our certified nursing assistants (CNAs) this week.

These men and women are the backbone of our resident care as they provide personal assistance with meals, daily tasks, hygiene, and other needs of our elders. We appreciate their hard work so much and love to celebrate and reward them all year long, but especially during national CNA week in June.

One of our CNAs recently won a county wide award for excellent leadership in caregiving. Nelda is a shining example of the kind of compassionate care that we strive to provide to each of our residents. The waffles were just one way to communicate that we see and appreciate the excellent work of our CNA team.

Other activities for CNA week include “Hat Day,” a catered lunch, free gifts, and more.

We hope you’ll join us in saying, “Thanks for caring!” to our nursing assistants!

Residents “Go Wild” at the North Carolina Zoo!

chapel hill zoo

Two of our residents and their caregivers had a wild time in Asheboro, North Carolina last week! For these individuals it was the first time in several decades they were able to go to the zoo. They were amazed by the exhibits of elephants, tigers, bears, and more.

Therapeutic Thursdays, Taco Parties, and Ice Cream Floats Bring Smiles!

With spring in the air and summer soon approaching, our residents are enjoying the weather.

Everyone loves a good party, so we have them often here at Signature HealthCARE! Recently we had a Mexican-themed taco party, an ice cream float party, and a craft party. Residents and stakeholders had a great time together at each of these events.

Our therapy department is hosting special activities each week that they like to call “Therapeutic Thursdays.” These events are designed to be fun and unique ways to accomplish our physical and occupational therapy goals with the fun activities built in.

Our great therapy staff really loves these special times of fun and interaction with our residents, and everyone enjoys the extra time to socialize as well.

We can’t wait to do more of these parties, events, and activities in the coming weeks!
